Elaborate practical joke finally revealed on Rebecca Heckler
Toronto--???After five years of assuming she was writing for the Nearly Post-Mortem, columnist Rebecca Heckler was finally let in on the joke early Monday morning that her job was a bet gone too far.
"I can't wait to tell my fianc?!" said Ms. Heckler after being told she had only been hired after senior editor Chuck McGarnigal made a bet with columnist Hooper Stanfield.
"She talks about her goddamn fianc? all the fucking time," said Mr. Stanfield. "I told Chuck there was no way the newsroom wouldn't be flooded with angry letters." Still, Heckler continued to write for several years. I'm shocked she lasted this long without a call for my beheading," said Mr. McGarnigal. It took several explanations by Mr. McGarnigal, and the aid of finger puppets, to explain the intricacies of the bet to Ms. Heckler.
